2025 at Horizons: Highlights So Far

Check out some of the wonderful things we've been up to at Horizons this year!

Cory’s Adaptive Glove

Cory has been using an adaptive glove in his sessions with his physiotherapist Nafeesa and with his personal assistant Gary which has transformed how he can use and move his left hand.

The glove, which was only 拢56 on eBay, works in cycles and uses air to create movement.

ITV came to visit Cory and see his glove in action – check it out below!

Summer Fair for Cancer Research

The sun was shining over Horizons as we celebrated our much-anticipated Summer Fair! With fantastic music from the Music department and a wide variety of stalls, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

From sweet treats from the Living Skills group to beautiful flowers from Horticulture and stunning crafts from Ceramics, Upcycling, and Art, the talent on display was incredible.

An incredible 拢573.30 was raised for Cancer Research!

Partnership with Gardiner Richardson

Members of our Media Team are collaborating with Gardiner Richardson on a very exciting project for Grainger Market. They’ll be helping to create content to improve community engagement for the market stalls.

Natalie, Frankie, Daryn, Rahima, and Mark were brimming with creativity and ideas as they had their first meeting to elevate their content to the next level. We鈥檙e excited to see their vision take shape in the coming weeks!

Stay tuned to see how this project progresses!

Hats for the Homeless

Gary has been using a handy knitting machine to make bobble hats for individuals facing homelessness this winter. So far, he’s created a handful and hopes to create many more in time for when the seasons change.

He’s also beginning to make smaller hats specially for premature babies in hospital. We鈥檙e incredibly proud of Gary鈥檚 kindness and his commitment to helping others.

Dressing up at the Hub

We had some pretty spectacular costumes on show for our recent bake sale at the Hub!

Not only did everyone look fantastic – we also managed to raise 拢110 for the Bay Foodbank from our bake sale.

Unleashing our Creativity聽

Some of our members have been enjoying getting crafty using gel presses.

Gel plates for printing are versatile tools and provide a flexible and mouldable surface for spreading paints and creating prints. Our members loved getting a bit messy and using leaves and feathers to create some brilliant art!

Days Out

What’s better than a great day out?

We love any opportunity to get out in the community and experience new things. Take a look at some of the things we’ve been up to!

Designing the Heaton Pride logo

Heaton Pride put out a call for a new logo design, asking to see creative expression capturing the Heaton area and Pride.

Our Media Team worked together to share ideas and chose Heaton鈥檚 iconic shoe tree to represent all of the people in the community. They added the pride flag colours and used an easy to read font, and won the competition!
