Family Information and FOPHS News Friday 9th May 2025

It has been lovely to see classes getting outdoors at school and in the community as the good weather continues. Please remember to send in sunscreen and hats to protect your children from the harmful effects of the sun.

The LSTE pathway held an open afternoon on Tuesday, where parents/carers could spend time in classes with their children, visit all the LSTE classes and watch a range of activities. We received positive feedback, with some saying how impressed they were at the atmosphere in school where both students and staff were happy and welcoming.

Yesterday a group of students from the LSTE pathway went to South Shields for an adaptive surfing session. Most of the students and all the staff looked enthusiastic. Isn’t it wonderful to see real inclusivity and new opportunities for those with significant mobility challenges?

Prom 2025:

Upper School Students will have received an invite to Prom which will be held at school on Friday 11th July from 18.30-20.30, a truly wonderful annual tradition at 51ÊÓƵ School. Please see poster below and return the reply slip or email the office at:Ìý PercyHedleySchoolAdminTeam@percyhedley.org.uk to confirm your young person’s attendance no later than Friday 13th June.

A reminder that staff who are there on the night are supporting the event; students who require feeding or personal care must have a parent/carer there for this purpose.

Understanding the Risks: Why Social AI Companions Aren’t Safe for Children

Hello, parents and guardians, As technology continues to evolve, it brings both exciting advancements and new challenges. One of the latest trends is the development of social AI companions—digital friends designed to engage users in conversation. It is important to note that AI companions are different from AI ChatBots (such as Chat GBT, TeachMateAi and Twinkl AI). However, a recent assessment by Common Sense Media has raised red flags about the safety of these AI tools for children and teens under 18. Here’s why it’s important to be cautious and how you can keep your child safe in this digital age.

A VE related quote from Winston Churchill which is quite poignant given the world we live in now.

“We may allow ourselves a brief period of rejoicing but let us not forget for a moment the toil and efforts that lie ahead.â€
